Team assessment

Team assessment for team development

While group assessment is typically used with leadership teams, we have worked with some agile businesses who recognise the value in completing team assessment as part of a development intervention for their functional teams too.

For example, we’ve worked with investment teams who know they can be more effective together, but aren’t completely sure how. In this particular case, we utilised psychometric profiling but followed it up with a suite of individual coaching sessions, to explore with each team member how their preferences gel with those of others.

One of our largest projects of this kind was with an international pharmaceutical brand, who used MBTI with 200 of their colleagues across a multi-level hierarchy to explore how their personality and communication preferences might be affecting the way they collaborated, and their approach to change. Supported by a series of distance-facilitated group workshops and group coaching and facilitated over twelve months, the programme had a significant affect on engagement, efficiency and productivity.

Team assessment can also be used as part of a recruitment campaign to bring new talent into an existing business function. Doing individual assessment is unquestionably valuable during recruitment campaigns, but that value increases exponentially with the additional data on the rest of the team. When assessment is done ‘in the round’, the team gets a much better understanding of the group dynamics, whilst also being able to explore the ‘gaps’ which a new recruit might fill. It can also flag shared personality risks and derailers, which can be avoided with the right information
