Victoria Miro Gallery

The Victoria Miro Gallery is a British contemporary art gallery in London, run by Victoria Miro. The gallery shows the work of established and emerging artists from the USA, Europe and Asia in an exhibition space close to the financial heart of London. 

Miro opened her first gallery in 1985 in Cork Street, before moving to larger premises in Islington in 2000 and later opening another gallery in Venice in 2017.

Having been referred to People Business by a prestigious London gallery, the gallery’s Operations Director, Robert Holzberger, initially got in touch with People Business in 2013 regarding some management development training. We kept in touch over the years and then, as the gallery expanded, they asked People Business in 2018 for HR support as they didn’t have a dedicated in-house HR specialist.

How People Business assisted Victoria Miro

Victoria Miro Gallery became a retained client and since that relationship started, we have run many projects and assisted on HR matters on a regular basis. These include:  

  • Handbook and policies 
  • Support for employee relations issues 
  • Occupational Health referrals 
  • Revision of performance appraisal process 
  • MBTI administration and feedback 
  • HR documentation such as Employment contracts and policies 
  • Sales team development training 
  • Dignity at work training 

In addition to using our HR services, Robert was keen to learn from us, upskill and improve his knowledge of HR practices. He wanted to gain confidence in handling day-to-day HR matters, reducing the need for as much input from us in the long term. 

While People Business continued to give HR support to the Gallery, we designed and delivered a bespoke one-to-one HR Development and Mentoring programme aimed at broadening and deepening Robert’s knowledge of the standard practices of HR.  

This programme was delivered by two of our HR consultants over a period of six months – alternating consultants and covering the subjects required to give a good foundation in HR.  

Over time it was felt that since Robert was fully capable of handling many HR matters with confidence, People Business services were not needed as regularly.  We now work with The Victoria Miro Gallery on an ad hoc basis and act as Robert’s advisors when required.
