Project Description

BD

BD is one of the largest global medical technology companies in the (70,000 employees) world and is advancing the world of healthby improving medical discovery, diagnostics and the delivery of care. The company supports the heroes on the frontlines of healthcare by developing innovative technology, services and solutions that help advance both clinical therapy for patients and clinical process for healthcare providers.

BD has been at the forefront of the huge increase in global demand during the pandemic as it makes syringes which carry vaccinations. The Pharma Systems Quality team were determined that this growth would not come at the expense of quality and so set out in 2020 to ensure that having a quality culture and mind set was promoted through the division.

People Business were selected as partners to design, develop and deliver pilot phases and then support the internal leadership to manage the full roll out.

How People Business assisted the client

We designed a change management programme that started with creating a cross functional steering group and engaging the worldwide leadership team. This was followed by a benchmarking exercise using a specially created questionnaire and then a series of workshops and coaching support for leaders, managers and internal champions.

We created a powerful story that gave a clear narrative to everyone involved and we set ourselves a challenging target of making measurable change in the benchmarking survey perceptions in a 90-day sprint. We led two phases of pilots to ensure that we could test the programme in a range of contexts. A plant/factory setting as well as in commercial and R&D teams. We also ensured that the pilots had global representation. In both pilot phases, the business achieved significant change in awareness and focus on quality and as a result moved into full roll out stage. We are training internal ambassadors who will lead the next phases and we will support their development, taking on a partnering role.

Whilst it will take some time to begin to measure the changes in behaviour and their impact on plants, customers and operations the strength of the attitudinal shift created during the sprints creates significant hope that this will follow.

We are delighted to be partnering with the quality leadership team to deliver such an important programme that will influence the way people in Pharma systems work globally and the attention that having a quality culture now has in this part of the organisation.
