People Business’s HR Development and Mentoring Programme
The HR function has become far more complex over recent years with a growing list of responsibilities and specialities. For organisations of all sizes HR responsibilities range from compliance with the latest legislation to employee relations, resource planning to employee development, and much more besides.
This added complexity means that smaller organisations who don’t necessarily have the capacity or requirement for an in-house HR professional need to decide how to manage HR responsibilities. There are a few options to choose from:
- Employ a full- or part-time HR professional
- Engage with an HR consultancy on a retained or ad hoc basis
- Upskill an employee or employees who could develop their HR knowledge and take on the necessary responsibility.
At People Business we can help with all three options above. Most of our smaller clients, however, choose the second option and engage with us on a retained or ad hoc basis. Some do choose the third option and follow our HR Development and Mentoring Programme.
What is the People Business HR Development and Mentoring Programme?
Designed to upskill individuals who are not HR professionals but who have HR as part of their responsibilities, the HR Development and Mentoring Programme provides practical guidance on how to deal with common employee relations issues. It is delivered in such a way that the individual will not only gain knowledge but also feel confident and competent in applying it to their day-to-day work.
The programme builds on an individual’s understanding of best practice in HR taking them through a series of agreed modules. There are several modules to choose from depending on their level of knowledge and areas of particular interest.
How is the programme delivered?
The format is a blend of direct one-to-one training and mentoring. We provide a diverse set of materials and references covering the elements which make up each of the key topics of interest, including latest research, case studies, HR ‘specialist’ articles, videos, templates and more. Modules include contracts and employment law, handling grievances and disciplinaries, absence management and recruitment.
Unlike many other programmes, there is an important mentoring element which forms part of the training, which helps participants to embed their learning. This can be done either face to face or remotely and is vital to applying learning to real life scenarios faced by those on the programme in their working day. A People Business consultant will be available on the phone or via email throughout the course, so if any questions arise during the programme they can assist.
Why choose People Business?
What our client says about us
“I highly recommend People Business for HR support for any business that requires professional, personable and up-to-date HR advice and assistance. People Business has been central to our HR needs over the last 10 years. As Victoria Miro doesn’t have a dedicated HR professional, I rely on People Business to help us through complex employee situations and provide contractual advice. Having them on call is reassuring and has worked well for our company. The HR Development and Mentoring Programme also enabled me to establish some important HR fundamentals at the Gallery.
The People Business team are incredibly professional yet personal, and their knowledge of employment law and advice is invaluable. I can’t recommend People Business highly enough.”

Tonia Cassandra, Head of People and Culture, Momentum ITSMA
“We had an amazing outcome, so happy with the process and the added bonus is that you were fab to work with! It really helped to go through the process with other HR professionals, which was really key for me. It really took the pressure off when I was being pulled into other work, and I was confident in your assessment of who would be a good fit for final round. Would highly recommend and do it again in a heartbeat.”
