The Good Boss Questionnaire

A real insight into management behaviour – the rights and the wrongs

Unsurprisingly, boss behaviour significantly affects employee motivation – be that positively or negatively. So, what can you do about that?

The Good Boss Questionnaire (GBQ) can certainly help. Since its launch in 2004, the GBQ has helped over 1,000 people managers improve their management behaviour, resulting in more engaged and productive employees.

What is the Good Boss Questionnaire?

The GBQ is a psychometric questionnaire that improves individual and organisational performance by assessing and developing the behaviour of managers and supervisors. It can diagnose and reverse patterns of managerial behaviour which have been shown to compromise the productivity, morale and wellbeing of employees and teams.

What’s involved?

Each people manager needs 3-8 direct reports to complete the questionnaire, giving their views on the manager’s behaviours. Their answers are taken and plotted onto a chart to compare with the manager’s own scores. This gives a good picture of how managers view their behaviour and how this differs to their employees’ perception in all 14 scales that the Good Boss Questionnaire measures.

Feedback sessions are conducted by a qualified Good Boss Coach and include discussing the impact of the manager’s behaviour. The practitioner then works with the manager to form an action plan. The GBQ can be run again in six months or so to see how effective the action plan has been and what score improvements have been made.

What results could you expect?

It is no secret that one of the most successful ways to reduce costs and drive better performance in any organisation is to increase the effectiveness of people managers. After a GBQ project your organisation could:

  • increase effectiveness and morale
  • drive a better culture of performance
  • reduce unnecessary costs
  • increase revenue
  • lower staff turnover
